Celebrate the first decade of pro bono legal services in Bloomington by helping us prepare for the next! Your tax-deductible gift will help us sustain, promote and meaningfully expand access to justice for Hoosiers.
Accessing legal services and representation is difficult for many working Hoosiers. Identifying the lawyers (and organizations) who provide low-cost or free legal advice on important matters is one of the first obstacles individuals commonly face. Even when such practitioners are identified, there is frequently much higher demand than there is supply of these services.
To fill this gap and instill ideal professional standards for lawyers in training, the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, in conjunction with the law firm Faegre Baker Daniels, has established a Pro Bono Program that coordinates community resources in Bloomington. Among other objectives, Maurer’s Pro Bono Program facilitates access to legal services on IU’s flagship campus; enables student participation in the ethical and competent delivery of legal aid in various, high-demand subject areas—ranging from tenant rights to protective orders and from tax assistance to inmate representation; undertakes community awareness initiatives regarding the means of accessing existing services; and develops sustainable community resource networks to maintain and expand the region’s capacity to provide professional advice on key legal matters across Southern Indiana.
In addition to this vital work, the Pro Bono program also recognizes the achievements of students, student programs, and community organizations; tracks law student participation in pro bono work; and organizes law school panels that provide instructive guidance to future attorneys regarding opportunities to remain engaged in pro bono services.
The successful design and sustainable implementation of these projects, requires your support. Monetary donations of any amount will be of tremendous help. Please help us to grow our impact and further transform lives this year and beyond by enhancing meaningful access to legal services
