While the museum building is closed for renovation, we're taking our K–12 Art Education Program out of the museum and into the classroom! The program emphasizes the importance of art education in students’ lives, engaging their minds, feelings, and imaginations in creative ways that only the visual arts can provide. This year, we are visiting all Monroe County second-grade classrooms. With your help, we can expand the program to serve additional grade levels next year!

What is the IU Eskenazi Museum of Art K–12 Education Program?

The museum’s K–12 Education Program provides educational tours for nearly 5,500 K–12 students who visit the museum annually from schools across Indiana. 100% of the funding for this program, including the cost of bus transportation to the Bloomington campus, comes from our donors.

What does the program offer K–12 students?

By working closely with area schools and teachers, and following the objectives and benchmarks established in the Indiana State Standards for Education, the museum education department introduces students to a select set of masterworks from the museum’s collection through carefully crafted curriculum-structured grade tours and resource materials.

How will the program continue when the museum building is closed for renovation?

The museum building is currently closed for an extensive renovation project, and will reopen in time for the fall semester of 2019. In the meantime, we will continue our outreach by taking the program out to the schools. We are currently focusing on the second-grade classes of all schools in Monroe County, since these museum tours have become a mandatory part of the Monroe County Community School Corporation second-grade curriculum. With your help, we can expand the program to serve even more classrooms next year!
