To better serve the community members on the near east side, the leadership of the Student Outreach Clinic has decided to expand into a new facility nearby. This new location would make the clinic accessible to patients with mobility issues and create dedicated space for patient interaction and treatment. To open this new space, we need your help. Your gift will bring us closer to providing excellent healthcare to those most in need.
The IU Student Outreach Clinic (IUSOC) is a free clinic currently run out of the Neighborhood Fellowship Church on Indianapolis’s near east side. This tight-knit community is connected to its past while remaining committed to a renewed future. While racially, culturally, and economically diverse, this neighborhood is known for its united sense of community. According to a 2007 assessment, there are roughly 15,000 homes in the community. Unfortunately, 50% of residents live at or below the poverty level.
These are the individuals served by the IU Student Outreach Clinic. A large percentage of IUSOC patients report unmet health needs for a variety of reasons, including cost, lack of transportation, lack of a primary care provider or need of health insurance. The IUSOC helps to close the healthcare gap in this community by serving as a warm and welcoming medical presence right in their neighborhood.
We provide primary care-based medical services free of charge for the uninsured and underserved in our community. We address a wide variety of conditions, including infections, musculoskeletal complaints, and chronic concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. We strive to provide high-quality medical care at no cost to patients while also working to re-connect them with established healthcare networks within Indianapolis.
